The Edwards Homes are five houses containing a total of 15 apartment units, located on Benefit Street, immediately behind the Cathedral of Saint John in Providence.
The purpose of The Edwards Homes is to provide affordable housing for persons of limited income who are 62 years of age or older. Rent is set at 25% of income.
Residents must be able to live independently. The units are modest in size, but each contains cooking facilities. No direct social services are provided residents; however, a part-time chaplain, Deborah Cotter, is employed to provide pastoral care to the residents. The buildings are maintained by the maintenance staff of the diocese.
The application process includes an interview, the completion of an application form, and a doctor's attestation to the applicant's ability to care for himself or herself.
