Hispanic Ministry

Hispanic ministry has been a part of the diocesan mission for thirty years. This growing demographic population is currently served by two Diocesan missioners in two congregations.

San Jorge (St. George’s) in Central Falls is a congregation that provides Spanish language worship and pastoral care. They work for justice among the people of Central Falls who are seeking citizenship.  The missioner at this church is The Rev. Jack Lynch.

La Iglesia de la Ascension began in 2010 as a Spanish-speaking service of the Church of the Ascension which has both Spanish and English language services and a bi-lingual, integrated Vestry and congregational leadership. The missioner at this church is The Rev. Santiago Rodriguez who is also the Lutheran pastor at Gloria Dei Church in Providence. The rector is the Rev. Mike Coburn.

Other Initiatives

Instituto Ecumenico de Ministerio Hispano is an education program to train a team of Spanish-speaking members as worship leaders, preachers and evangelists with the goal of starting small group ministries in the community. Some team members may eventually be ordained as deacons or priests. The Rev. Jack Lynch leads the Instituto with the assistance of the Rev. Santiago Rodriguez and other area clergy.

San Jorge Community Services mission is to meet the basic human needs of people in the Central Falls area. Their efforts include a soup kitchen which serves the only hot meal in Central Falls, a food pantry which assists their neighbors and events such as health screening clinics.

Hispanic Ministry Committee supports the activities of our Hispanic congregations.

How can you help?

You are welcome to join any of the Hispanic congregations or visit them for worship!  You are invited to participate in their social events, fundraisers or educational programs.  And, of course, you can contribute funds, food, or other assistance. You can also help with the Hispanic Ministry Committee or give them a  donation to use where it is needed most. Contact the Missioners for how you can support this growing ministry.
