The Diocese of Ezo
Our History as Companions
Bishop Wolf and the Diocese of Rhode Island have offered to partner
with the Diocese of Ezo in the Southern Sudan, acknowledging
how significant Christianity and the mission of the Church is to the
survival and life of the people there. The Diocese of Rhode Island
has embraced this relationship whole-heartedly.
In December of 2008 Bishop Wolf and her husband, Tom Bair, travelled to
Ezo to meet the people there. When asked how we might partner
with them in their mission, Bishop John Zawo of Ezo identified one
of their most pressing needs to be bicycles for clergy who often must
walk ten or more miles to be with their parishioners. Other needs
and goals were supplies to start a goat farm, a sawmill, (which would
allow them to create furniture for the school from local mahogany
trees), vestments and clothing for clergy, and educational support
for their Development Officer.
Through presentations about their trip, Bishop Wolf and Tom Bair
have been able to raise enough money to purchase 15 bicycles for
Ezo. Our Diocesan Council has approved the use of some of our
Diocesan MDG budget to cover costs for starting the goat farm,
and the College education of their Development Officer. Committee
members are working on plans for parishoners of all ages to send
pictures online or by mail as we begin to get to know our brothers
and sisters in Ezo.
